Carving

Carving work often starts with a sketch, a drawing, templates and a model. In this way the work moves from two into three dimensions. Carving can be architectural, ornamental, sculptural or useful. Stone types include, but are not limited to, limestones, sandstones, marbles, slate and boulders.

The work can be a faithful copy or a new design. It can also be a part of a whole or include more than one stone. Textures, finishes and gilding are worth considering; so often old carvings may have lost these and as a result are unfortunately forgotten when renewing the piece.
